Water Assist runs entirely on your iPhone and stores nothing on any server. Most problems come down to volume or to where the sound is going — start with the first three below.

Common fixes

  • I cannot hear anything — the media volume is almost always the cause. Turn it up with the side buttons. The app warns you when it is very low, but between roughly 30% and 70% it stays quiet and the difference is large.
  • It sounds quiet even at full volume — that is physics, not a fault. The iPhone speaker is small and reproduces low notes poorly. Try the Strong setting; the app deliberately stops at a safety limit, and pushing past it would only distort.
  • The sound is going to my AirPods — disconnect them or any other external output. The cycle only works through the iPhone's own loudspeaker, and the app warns you when the output is elsewhere.
  • The cycle keeps pausing — the app has noticed the iPhone moved. Rest it on a surface in the position asked for rather than holding it. It resumes on its own without losing progress.
  • It stopped when I locked the screen — that is expected. The cycle needs the app open and the screen on; it does not run in the background.
  • The speaker still sounds muffled — water can take a few cycles to clear. Use the Speaker Test, and run another cycle if it still sounds muffled. Give the iPhone time to dry between attempts.
  • The microphone test does not work — it needs microphone permission. If you declined, enable it in iOS Settings ▸ Water Assist ▸ Microphone.
  • I cannot see the screen during the speaker cycle — that is intentional, the screen faces down. Leave spoken guidance on; it is what talks you through it.
